Deaf people make their way into European institutions
During the last election Kósa Ádám, President of the Hungarian
deaf, won a seat in Parliament.
The demonstration that deafness is no longer a barrier in the world political
is that were elected to three other deaf people, all
women in three different states of the European Union. The first is
Helga Stevens (pictured above), a member of the Belgian Parliament, recently re-elected
. The Stevens is the candidate more popular in his party for
this term. Even positive signs coming from Greece.
Dimitra Arapoglu (left photo) was, in fact,
elected as a member of the Greek Parliament. Finally, in Austria, Helene Jarmer (
photo right) won a seat with his party, the Greens, for
Parliament of his country. These positive examples should not be
only exception but the rule. A source of inspiration for all deaf
Europeans who want to look out the policy to be useful
institutions of their countries.
